The objective of the Sustainable Energy Project (SISEP) for Solomon Islands is to improve operational efficiency, system reliability and financial sustainability of Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA). While there has been some project implementation delays, progress against the Project Development Objective indicators remains generally strong, with Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (now trading as Solomon Power) continuing to achieve strong financial, reliability, and commercial performance and is on track to or exceed Project Development Objective targets. The project remains relevant to supporting the commercialization and sustainability of the power utility. A sustainable SIEA is a vital precondition for: (i) increasing access to electricity services in Solomon Islands; (ii) increasing affordability through the utility investing in efficiency improving new generation, transmission and distribution; and (iii) reducing generation costs and increasing energy security through increasing the share of renewable energy in the existing energy mix.
