ADB is helping Samoa reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and improve energy security. The project will rehabilitate three small hydropower plants on Upolu and construct three new hydropower plants on Upolu and Savai’i. It will provide training to the Electric Power Corporation on operation and maintenance. The project is expected to save about 3.6 million liters of diesel per year. The project will result in greater energy security and sustainability for Samoa.

OutcomeCustomers will have access to a higher share of electricity generated by hydropower.

  • EPC rehabilitates and reconnects to the grid 4.69 MW of hydropower capacity

  • EPC builds and connects to the grid 0.81 MW of hydropower capacity

  • O&M knowledge transfer program completed

  • Project implemented efficiently
