Pacific Efficient Lighting Strategy (PELS) Technical Validation Workshop and Pacific Appliance Labelling and Standards (PALS) Steering Committee Meeting

Background
1. With the conclusion of the PALS workshop and steering committee meeting and PELS technical working group meeting on 23-27 February 2015 in Canberra, Australia, we have been working closely with the four working groups: (1) minimum energy performance standards, (2) monitoring, verification and enforcement, (3) supporting policies, and (4) environmentally sound management to further develop the Pacific Efficient Lighting Strategy document.
2. The final draft Strategy document will be circulated on 20 July 2015 and will be discussed in a workshop to be held in conjunction with the PALS Steering Committee meeting.
3. We wish to advice that the PELS Technical Validation Workshop and the PALS Steering Committee meeting will be held on 5-7 August 2015 at the Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi.

Purpose of the Workshop
4. The PELS workshop aims to present the final draft Strategy document for discussions and explore financing mechanisms to implement the Strategy.
5. The PALS meeting is to review the PALS programme implementation; discuss capacity building opportunities for implementing a sustainable labelling and standards program; and discuss product registration system as a compliance and enforcement tool for phasing out inefficient appliances in PICTs.
